The disciples have just commemorated the Lord’s Supper with Jesus. They’re coming off a distinct highlight. “But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table” (v. 21). Jesus now confronts his own disciples with the cruel temptations of the devil. The frightening truth is that the disciples are not aware of Satan’s presence, but the comforting truth is that Jesus is.
